Opened Doors Posted on Dec 12, 11:12 pm
Today the lovely and immensely talented Wendy asked one of her #bixquestions on Facebook: Who is a person who opened doors for you in your passion or your career when they didn't have to? What did they do and what impact did it have on your life? I answered on Facebook, but I'd like to expand on my answer here. Aren't you lucky!

And yet, still we flaked.

Saturday 9: Holidailies Edition Posted on Dec 9, 3:12 pm
It's snowing like crazy outside. It's Saturday. Because of these two circumstances, I'm still in my pajamas. Why not? I'm not going anywhere, that's for sure. So, on this lazy, snowy day, how about some Saturday 9?

More Santa! Posted on Dec 8, 9:12 pm
Maybe it was that voluminous beard! That's the most bearded Santa I've ever seen.

Tired Posted on Dec 7, 7:12 pm
I did my nightly ritual, which generally ensures that I sleep pretty well, but alas! It did not work last night.

Excerpt: Oatmeal or Grits Posted on Dec 2, 7:12 pm
Mugs were a sure sign of Al's favor. Most of the cookhouse denizens had to make do with Styrofoam, but if Al liked you, he'd hand you a mug and you'd better be grateful for the privilege.

Ho Ho Holidailies Posted on Dec 1, 3:12 pm
Nah, I don't think it's cheating. It's re-purposing!

The Antietam Soldier Posted on Oct 24, 10:10 am
The entire cornfield was gone, decimated by rifle shot and cannon.

The Real Horror Posted on Oct 3, 9:10 pm
Once again, a deranged man with an arsenal has murdered people. How many will it take before we stop sending thoughts and prayers and start determining how we can stop these terrorists?

Let the Horrordailies Commence Posted on Oct 3, 9:10 pm
Because, my friends, back in My Day, there was no such thing as "fun size."

A Year Goes By Like Nothing, Part 2 Posted on Dec 31, 10:12 am
I was going to post this last night, but Typepad wasn't cooperating.

It's Been a Quiet Week Posted on Dec 29, 9:12 pm
It's highly likely that I'll be the only person around my neck of the office tomorrow.

A Year Goes By Like Nothing Posted on Dec 28, 8:12 pm
The first part of a two-part year-in-review.

Super Mega Posted on Dec 27, 8:12 pm
I worked on it in fits and starts. I had to fold it in quarters just to manage it. Finally, yesterday, I finished!

And so we had Christmas!

Fun with Fours Posted on Dec 22, 9:12 pm
Well, I'm not feeling very inspired this evening, so here's a meme that's been going around on Facebook. By doing it here, I can add more explanations to my answers, so there's that!

Santa! Posted on Dec 21, 9:12 pm
Did you hear that? We did, I swear; we heard a siren. Fire engine? Yes! Could it be? YES!

Christmas Past Posted on Dec 20, 8:12 pm
In 1970, the Veg-O-Matic was being advertised constantly, and my Pop was always talking about it.

All Better Posted on Dec 19, 8:12 pm
I finally feel like me again. It took pretty much a full month to recover from my surgery, but when I did, it happened almost overnight.

These Cats Again Posted on Dec 18, 8:12 pm
Occasionally, though, the cats want to occupy the same space at the same time. At that point, a delicate negotiation takes place. Consider this evening, when they both hopped up on the recliner at the same time.

O Christmas Tree Posted on Dec 17, 6:12 pm
"Don't you have any little trees?" I asked wistfully.

I climbed the two flights up to the Long Room of the Old Library. It took my breath away.

Rosie Takes a Walk Posted on Dec 13, 8:12 pm
All of a sudden a group of gazoonies and prop crew ran past us, as fast as they could. A couple were carrying stakes. This was very odd behavior.

Meeting at the Meeting of the Waters Posted on Dec 12, 9:12 pm
Between Avoca and Glendalough is a tiny jewel of a park: the Meeting of the Waters. At this point, the River Avonbeg ("small river" in Gaelic) and the River Avonmore ("big river") join to form the River Avoca ("Avoca").

The Rising Posted on Dec 11, 9:12 pm
Irishmen and Irishwomen: In the name of God and of the dead generations from which she receives her old tradition of nationhood, Ireland, through us, summons her children to her flag and strikes for her freedom.

Saturday 9: Snowbird Posted on Dec 10, 6:12 pm
I haven't done the Saturday 9 in a while, so why not now?

Coffee and Me Posted on Dec 9, 8:12 pm
Ah, my first cup of coffee! All bets were off after that.

Avoca Posted on Dec 8, 11:12 pm
Established in 1723, Avoca Handweavers is nestled in a little glen by the Avoca River, right on the edge of the village.

You know what I looked forward to about surgery?

Oh Hi Holidailies! Posted on Dec 1, 8:12 pm
Yay! It's time for Holidailies, that beloved yearly tradition wherein bloggers and/or online journalers and/or diarists solemnly swear to post once a day until the end of the year. It's also a Holidailies tradition to introduce yourself to the group, just in case someone hasn't read your blog. So here we go - ten things about me (because I'm too lazy to do more than that and I conveniently have a category called "Ten Things").

It's Always Something Posted on Oct 21, 3:10 pm
I suddenly realized that yeah, I kinda am overwhelmed by all of this, and I'm really not all that fine, but it's okay. It's kind of a relief to admit it. So there you go.

Assaults Posted on Oct 13, 10:10 pm
I was 10 years old and I didn't want to cause any trouble.

The Sacred Sites Posted on Oct 8, 2:10 pm

Swirly Picasso Thingadaily Posted on Feb 9, 10:02 pm
Here's a very swirly-ish Zentangle -- I got a little carried away.

Holidaily Dinner Posted on Feb 8, 10:02 pm
I made it; we ate it. Therefore, I declare that it counts.

Thingadaily Box Posted on Feb 7, 9:02 pm
I finally figured out what went where and wrassled the pieces into submission, so here you go.

Mandala Thingadaily Posted on Feb 6, 9:02 pm
Wow.

Butterfly Thingadaily Posted on Feb 4, 10:02 pm
Note the white edge on the bottom wing -- bad bad bad bad bad.

A flowery, kinda dotty Zentangle for today.

It's Thingadailies! Posted on Feb 1, 8:02 pm
Hoot hoot!

A Mess of a Goal Posted on Jan 1, 11:01 pm
Therefore, I begin at the beginning, slowly recovering the little bit of skill that I once had, and then I'll move on to learn the new pattern.

Retrospective: 2015 Posted on Dec 31, 9:12 pm
Ah, the last post of 2015! It's time to look back on the year and see what was what. Or who was who. Or who was what... Oh, forget it!

Big Top Posted on Dec 22, 10:12 pm
A tale of a tent.

Back to the Light Posted on Dec 21, 10:12 pm
Tonight is the Winter Solstice, when the night is dark and long. And usually cold, but not this year -- ruining my poetic opening for this post.

Somehow Saturday Got Away from Me Posted on Dec 20, 11:12 am
I had good intentions, but I suppose I just laid another paving stone on my own personal Road to Hell.

The Three Meme Posted on Dec 18, 9:12 pm
So it's that "Three Meme" that's been making the rounds on Facebook. I added some pictures though!

Throwback Thursday: Christmas Edition Posted on Dec 17, 10:12 pm
Look at that expression on her face! I have a sneaky feeling that Pop may have given her a Christmas goose.

The Siren Song of the Chair Posted on Dec 16, 10:12 pm
I have realized that if I am to make it over to the fitness center in the evening, I must do two things immediately upon walking in the door: Change into my workout regalia (which consists of old, beat up yoga pants and an oversize t-shirt), and not sit in the chair.

The Christmas Quiz Posted on Dec 15, 8:12 pm
Mellificent and Pearl have done this Christmas quiz, so I have decided to jump on the bandwagon too!

How About a Date? Posted on Dec 14, 10:12 pm
I'll tell you about another holiday delicacy that my Gramma used to make: stuffed dates. Sounds kinda weird, doesn't it? Well, the recipe is insanely easy. It only has three ingredients!

Santa! Posted on Dec 13, 5:12 pm
You're never too old for a picture with Santa. Ho! Ho! Ho!

A Close Encounter with Clint Posted on Dec 12, 9:12 pm
So as I passed this guy, I said, "Good morning" and he said, "What's that?" as he pointed to the LL Bean Outdoor School patch on my vest. So I told him, and then I was trapped, because I cannot be rude to anyone.

King Me Posted on Dec 11, 9:12 pm
These people were always fighting wars over who would rule. And if they weren't fighting each other, they were fighting France. If you were on the wrong side, you could literally lose your head.

It Slices! It Dices! Posted on Dec 10, 11:12 pm
But as Christmas approached, we realized that the perfect gift for Pop that year would be an actual Vegematic.

Planning for a Planner Posted on Dec 9, 11:12 pm
I've experimented with organizer pads of paper, special notebooks with "Subject" and "Action" columns, other notebooks that have funky plastic disks for the spine and myriad add-ins like the Franklin. I finally gave up.

Kitty McSlutterson Posted on Dec 8, 11:12 pm
The question of whether or not she has been spayed has been answered, and how!

My Dream Home Posted on Dec 7, 11:12 pm
Oh, and no loft, please. I'd crack my head open for sure.

Ten Places Where I Would Spend Christmas Posted on Dec 6, 11:12 pm
Being fresh out of ideas for a post, I clicked the Random Promptinator. Here's what came up: Where do you fantasize spending your perfect December holiday time? It has to be somewhere you've never been before. Well, one is not enough. How about ten?

These Cats Posted on Dec 5, 10:12 pm
Taffy takes great delight in just hanging out right under Little Bits's nose, as if to say, "Ha, ha, I'm not touching youuuuuu!" She's a mixer, that one.

Pattern in Black and Gold Posted on Dec 4, 10:12 pm
This is not a long post, but I hope it's at least pretty one.

It's a Monstah! Posted on Dec 3, 10:12 pm
Most of these flicks feature a woman scientitian who butts heads with the men scientitians and/or soldiers and/or whatever. She's always smart and beautiful and makes a damn good cup of coffee while putting up with "But you're a girl!" commentary. In a lot of them, she helps defeat the monster, falls in love with the male lead, and realizes that her real place is by his side, having babies and keeping him full of that damn good coffee.

Speechless Posted on Dec 2, 7:12 pm
We all say "This has got to stop!" How? I don't know. I wish I did.

Again with the Holidailies! Posted on Dec 1, 12:12 am
Think about it -- 20 years ago none of this was possible. The web was just being spun -- it was a great big unknown, text-based place in the ether.
