Where's My Plan? by JohnSherck (25)

Dog Days of Winter? : This has proven not to be a great time of year for our little Beaker. Oh, it's no can't-walk-because-I'm-partially-paralyzed-after-two-back-surgeries-in-two-months kind of winter, but let's just say it ain't easy being a little dog just now. (posted Jan 6, 7:59am)

Simple Sunday Supper : In which we draw (sort of) from Sally Fallon's Nourishing Traditions to put together a wonderfully warm meal of ham soup, fresh bread, and brownies. Life is good (except for still not having our baby). (posted Jan 4, 10:10am)

2009: The Year in Books : Around this time each year, we have a tendency simultaneously to looks forward and to look back, and for me to choose one facet of life to look back upon, it's the books I've read over the past year. According to my records, I read... (posted Jan 3, 8:42am)

Happy New Year 2010 : You'd never know by looking at her that the cardboard hat and tiara for New Year's were her idea, but here's Lauren early in the evening as we started to resign ourselves to not getting an extra deduction on our 2009 taxes: (posted Jan 1, 12:17am)

The Waiting Game : Best of Holidailies Someone in the house, not naming my wife by name, isn't good with waiting. Christmas presents almost kill her if they sit under the tree too long, and now that she's done with school stuff until after maternity leave ends, she's going a little stir-crazy. (posted Dec 30, 11:19pm)

Et tu, Brutus? : One of the things hanging over there on my wall is a poster that my in-laws got me for my birthday last year. Actually, it's even cooler than that: it's a poster that my in-laws made for me: (posted Dec 30, 8:19am)

Books : Recently, there was an op-ed in the New York Times offering suggestions for which books in one's home could be well given away. For my part, I tended to agree with the commenter who hated the whole notion and vowed to keep his clutter of books 'til his dying day. That's not to say I've never gotten rid of any ... Thusday Think 'n' Share, Christmas Eve edition : No questions from The Ungame tonight, just a little thinking and sharing about how Christmas is changing for me... (posted Dec 25, 12:36am)

Passive Receptacles vs. Owning Education : Although we start with volleyball and weight-lifting, move to baseball and tennis, ultimately our subject is education, broadly considered. (posted Dec 23, 11:39pm)

House Dreaming : Another recent Holidailies writing prompt asked us to envision our dream house--sometimes it seems I've been doing little else for the past several years, as Lauren and I have moved ever closer and closer to--we hope--make our "dream house" our actual home. It's probably not like many other people's idea of a dream home, though... (posted Dec 23, 1:10am)

Five Years Ago : I glanced over the Holidailies writing prompts and this one from a few days ago caught my eye. If I'd done a bit better job keeping a journal, this entry would have been easier (but blogging for longer than five years now helped a bit!). (posted Dec 22, 12:05am)

Suffer or take up arms? : I don't think I'm alone in this sort of inertia, though: very often it's easier "to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" when we could "take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them." With computers, we tend to take it f (posted Dec 20, 9:45am)

Thursday Think 'n' Share 2.6 : I think and share, you read, think, and share in this weekly get-to-know each other meme. This week: style, anger, and help. (posted Dec 17, 7:50pm)

Christmas Lights : JohnScrooge finally gets back into the spirit and puts up a bunch of Christmas lights. So far, nothing's burnt down, but the indications from the local news would seem to be that, in fact, something will. (posted Dec 16, 11:49pm)

The one place I really impose order : When I started back to the gym a month or so ago, it was nice to be welcomed back by the weight room staff, though I was a bit surprised how they knew I was back even before they actually saw me.You see, although I do not, in fact, suffer from OCD (posted Dec 16, 6:54am)

TV Review: The Sing-Off (pilot) : Tonight was the first night of The Sing-Off, a nationally televised a cappella competition. As a choral and vocal music person, I loved the concept and looked forward to the first episode. I have a little experience singing, arranging, and teaching this kind of music, so I at least have a leg up on Nicole whatshername, tonight's guest judge. (posted Dec 14, 10:36pm)

Friends and Cards and things : I've suggested before a simile for friendship, that friendships grow much the way people themselves do (this analogy has a particular pull on my mind as we await our daughter's birth!). Just as infants need to eat every couple hours, new friendships need the nourishment of frequent contact (a fact just as applicable to internet friendships as "real life" ones). Where babies come from...and where they end up 3 years later : Is anything funnier / more awkward than talking with 3-year-olds about the baby in a pregnant woman's belly? (posted Dec 12, 10:15pm)

Heating and Cooling : As a consequence of our ignorance, our first heating bill hit us upside the head like a black jack in preparation for picking our pockets down to the lint. I'm pretty sure the words "How are we going to pay for this?!" were spoken. Several times. Each minute. For days. (posted Dec 12, 8:58am)

Thursday Think 'n' Share 2.5 : It's Thursday, and that means three questions taken from The Ungame in an effort to let you get to know me and me get to know you, a chance for each of us to think and share. (posted Dec 10, 3:21pm)

Spinach- and Artichoke- filled Loaf : This evening, I created an excellent new dish, based in part from a recipe out of an utterly mediocre bread cookbook (if I was a cookbook reader it might have more appeal, but the layout and recipe text is pretty lousy) and on an utterly fantastic (posted Dec 9, 11:29pm)

Feaste of Saint Nicholas : A person who can weave together different strands of flavor into a pleasing, layered whole dish and meal is a wonderful cook. A person who can weave together strands of cuisine, fellowship, an occasion, and tradition into a great night that's remembered for years to come is a wonderful person. This time of year, I often think back to my ... (posted Dec 8, 10:30pm)

Welcome to Holidailies '09 & Who I Am : Where I blog, what I blog for. And who I am. Looking back a year, when I did Holidailies for the second time with the stated goal of "getting my blogging back on track," it proved both successful and not: (posted Dec 7, 12:10pm)
