Yield to Stern Resolve : As I do every year, I'm taking time for some introspection and course-corrections in the form of New Year's Resolutions/goals. (posted Jan 1, 3:05pm)
A Decade : A decade ago -- December 1999 -- I was working in a well-paying advertising job in the mountains of North Carolina, dating a sweet girl and living with my college housemates, writing a lot and publishing poetry and a tiny bit of fiction in the very small press. Since then I: (posted Dec 31, 11:57am)
The Year in Review : I'm doing this a couple of days earlier than usual, because I have time now, and I don't think anything momentous will happen in the next two days. (posted Dec 29, 3:12pm)
Unboxing Day : Once we got upstairs, we performed a TTR procedure (That's "Total Toy Replacement"). (posted Dec 26, 2:41pm)
Evetastic : Got word from one of the anthology editors I wrote "Our Stars, Our Selves" for that she really likes it, so that's good. Also got some expected writing money, which will make, er, the IRS happy, I guess. (posted Dec 24, 8:02pm)
Eve Eve : At 2-and-a-bit, our son is old enough to have some clue what's going on this year. He looooves opening presents, and shouts "Birthday!" when he encounters gifts. The nuances of the holiday can wait. (posted Dec 23, 4:41pm)
Christmas Stories : Christmas/fantasy/science fiction stories I adore (and read yearly). (posted Dec 22, 1:13pm)
Deliverance : Sunday night we ordered pizza, and the pizza guy got trapped in our temperamental elevator for a while, so that was, um, exciting. Or actually rather boring, and resulting in cold pizza. Wonder if they'll come next time we call? (posted Dec 21, 1:59pm)
Birthday, Boy : He chose the menu: hot dogs, tacos, broccoli, salad, and plain pasta. (posted Dec 19, 11:21am)
Blitz(en) : I could have refrained from playing so many video games last night and gotten much more writing done, but let's not wander into the dangerous realms of personal accountability and responsibility, all right? (posted Dec 18, 1:14am)
Oakland Boulevard : There were only a couple of insane and/or abusive people in line at the Post Office, along with one or two of those hapless souls who pick the wrong time of the month to run out of stamps, standing empty-handed amid people lugging gargantuan boxes. (posted Dec 16, 12:21am)
Palindromic : I had a Birthday on Saturday, and Lo, it was Good. (posted Dec 14, 12:17pm)
Agent Appreciation Day : Today is agent appreciation day! I met my agent Ginger Clark back in the dim mists of pre-history (2003!). (posted Dec 11, 11:48am)
Hive : I gave him his bath and put him to bed and read him a story until he said "Done. Nap. Bye." And so I was dismissed. (posted Dec 10, 5:10pm)
Any Excuse : Some people take this time of year as a good reason to be curmudgeonly, bitter, and jaded, and I actually respect that, and indulge in it a bit myself from time to time... but something in my brain chemistry and personal history combine to create a certain irrepressible bubble of joy around this time of year. (posted Dec 9, 5:38pm)
Some Days I Don't Write the Book : That's all in a perfect world, though, and today was rather imperfect. (posted Dec 9, 12:47am)
Snowishly : Snow! It snowed in the hills last night. On the morning drive we saw lots of cars with non-trivial quantities of icy whiteness on their hoods and roofs, and there are white-dusted eaves on the houses, though it was all turning to slush by the time I got to work. (posted Dec 7, 12:16pm)
