It would be good in baseball : So this is the last day of Holidailies for 2011-12. Let's see, December 9th through January 9th is 32 days. And this is my 12th entry (although I think I forgot to post one of them on the Holidailies site). Twelve out of thirty-two... that would be a .344 batting average if I were a baseball player and would be ... (posted Jan 9, 7:11pm)

Resolutions : I once asked someone at the YMCA when was their busiest time (thinking of a time-of-day) and they laughed and said "The first week of January." (posted Jan 2, 2:34pm)

New Year's Day : A bit past noon, Nancy suggested that we go over to Markos Kabob & More (in Narragansett) and enjoy their Sunday buffet for lunch and then take a walk along the sea wall... and so we did. (posted Jan 1, 5:52pm)

Drive-in refrigerator : There is a carrot cake in that cake holder that is sitting on the hood of my car. The icing on the cake needs to be kept refrigerated, but there was not enough room in our refrigerator, so we have been keeping it in our garage. (posted Dec 29, 7:52pm)

Counting the daze : Every time I take a week or so off from work, I have begun to think of it as a foretaste of retirement. I think that started back when I was looking at retirement as being something to be avoided. Well, here I am, 68 (actually, four months short of 69) and not retired, so obviously I've been successful in ... (posted Dec 28, 1:36pm)

Books : Earlier this month I pointed out that Mark Terry's novel The Fallen was available in Kindle format for free during the month of December. Today I'd like you to know that book four in the John Lord Chamberlain mystery series -- Four for a Boy -- is available in Kindle format for just 99 cents. (posted Dec 26, 3:05pm)

Merry Christmas : So not only am I failing badly at writing entries as part of Holidailies, the last entry I did post, I completely forgot about listing it on the Holidailies website. I thought that once I finished with working for the year (taking a combination of holidays and vacation days) I would find more time for writing here, but Wednesday was ... (posted Dec 25, 4:19pm)

I am not a mathematician : So... a mathematician came home at 3 a.m. His wife yelled at him "You are so late! You said you'd be home at 11:45!" "No, I am exactly on time. I said I'd be home at a quarter of twelve." (posted Dec 13, 5:10pm)

Jeremy cooks : A young woman Jeremy knows is suffering from lymphoma. She has been facing large medical expenses and some friends were planning a fund-raising event to assist with those expenses. Jeremy volunteered to organize food preparation. He planned the menu, recruited a co-chef, and obtained food donations from various supermarkets and food wholesalers... (posted Dec 12, 6:53am)

Holiday trees : Some of you may have caught news stories these past few days about the controversy over the lighting of the Official Rhode Island State Christmas Holiday Tree. If you missed the news items, you may have seen Jon Stewart's Daily Show comments on the situation. (posted Dec 11, 7:59pm)

Today's xkcd plus a free book : I am a fan of xkcd -- a strange, quirky, and sometimes brilliant comic by Randall Munroe -- published online on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. (posted Dec 11, 7:24am)
