Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Oh, Lord, it's hard to be... : Good thing that neither boy reads calendars or will know the difference if those three guys are a day late in arriving. Roads were icier than their camels are used to traveling. That’s my story, anyway. (posted Jan 5, 6:40pm)

The day : Good: solid run, with the discovery that the bike trail near the lake is still mostly free of ice and snow. (posted Jan 4, 8:27pm)

Jiggety frigging jig : This morning, I hit upon a good theme for myself over the next year. In honor of the late awesome Urban Couch, 2010 will be the year of “Do you really believe that?” (posted Jan 3, 10:45am)

Horses, redux : In true Southern practicality, instead of tearing it down to correct it, they shrugged and decided that would be the back of the building. (posted Jan 2, 9:48am)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

OMG iPhone : I’m just trying to navigate Ronnie’s friend Susan’s phone, as there’s otherwise no Internet connection. Verdict: my fingers are too big and my eyes too weak. (posted Jan 1, 6:32pm)

Falling Behind : It’s harder to keep up with Holidailies each year, as the kids get older and the activities become more consuming! (posted Dec 30, 8:27am)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Starved for family : I had never had the chance to meet my nephew before this trip, and the kid is now two. It is startling how much he looks like and reminds me of Gabe. Such a sweet kid; one can only hope he hasn’t found aspirations of world domination by the time he’s as old as his cousin. (posted Dec 28, 12:43pm)

From The Book of the Obvious : Hey, did you know that West Virginia has hills? And that if you start at the top of something called “Mount Alpha” and move downward, you’ll subsequently find yourself realizing just how very far you are from Wisconsin? (posted Dec 27, 2:47pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Foggy brain : Despite multiple cups of coffee, my ability to think remains doggedly elusive. (I can’t brain today; I have the dumb.) I’ve managed to winnow out the following ideas, formed over the past several hours... (posted Dec 26, 8:51am)

Christmas Eve : Here’s a multimedia entry, then! (posted Dec 24, 11:52pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Bad vs. Good : In a fit of nostalgia and independence, Sam decided then to take it upon himself to go in search of the truck…in the basement. Where I was keeping the Christmas gifts, which were yet to be wrapped. (posted Dec 23, 7:27pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping : Over time, though, I’ve managed to teach my body this: when I’m going through my pre-flight check, it means that sleep has to be imminent. I begin to feel drowsy even as I lay hand on the heart-rate strap. (posted Dec 22, 8:10pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Fueling appropriately : In the face of all that, a little peanut butter cookie seems entirely warranted. A small one, you know. Protein consumption is a virtue? (posted Dec 20, 5:11pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Jinx : “Pretend it’s an ice cream cone,” the sound folks told me. I muttered something to Eric about having seen Trent Reznor do something similar, but I’m not sure how acceptable that’d be for a church music program. (posted Dec 19, 8:30pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

All Heart : These girls both decorated the cards with hearts, and one of them wrote “LOVE” on it. They probably did that for cards for every classmate, but, boy, did Gabe go wide-eyed. (posted Dec 18, 8:19pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Traditions : We had a really good speaker at MOPS this morning, discussing holiday traditions – how the original Christmas was about as simple as it could get, and how we’ve turned it into something too complicated, too chaotic, and way too money-based (apparently about $450 billion dollars in America alone, last year). (posted Dec 17, 10:57pm)

And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street : It wasn’t until I got home and checked the newspaper’s website that I discovered that I managed to miss an armed robbery and shooting by about ten minutes. If I’d had my “happy pace” on today, I might have missed it by a lot less. (posted Dec 16, 5:05pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Impatient : I could wish I was a more patient person, but, yes, I am the person who eats cookies right off the tray, right out of the oven, with them falling apart all over the place and getting my fingers covered in melty goo. (posted Dec 15, 7:27pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Needed : …A New Year’s race in West Virginia. (I don’t think Santa’s got one of those for me in his bag.) (posted Dec 14, 7:16pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Wiped : One of them would mutter, “‘Man with big head uses secret purple monkey technique!” and they would both be on the ground. I was already on the ground, groaning over the eggs. Perhaps sleep would have been a wise choice for all of us that day. (posted Dec 13, 9:08pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

In Haiku : I could be that mom, // the one who cancels Christmas. // Don’t you push me, kid. (posted Dec 12, 7:07pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

No toads in the house, though : You know, these days are long enough without adding in a trip to Urgent Care, both kids in tow. (posted Dec 11, 8:20pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

These kids... : GABE (stomping off): “Funny…have to be…” [Turning and shouting] “And it’s not even magic! It’s just STUFF IN MY HAT!” (posted Dec 10, 9:10pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Wednesdays bite : “At least my mind will have been on my Maker if I have to go meet him now,” I decided as I tried to navigate the sharp turn that would either take me to the church or send me sailing down the hill into Lake Michigan. (posted Dec 9, 9:01pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Will it? Won't it? : We’re in Wisconsin, which means that we get Snow, and our weathermen have been salivating like basset hounds under a Thanksgiving banquet table over the signs surrounding today and tomorrow. Huge, heaping whomps of snow! Piles and piles of it! (posted Dec 8, 6:36pm)

Earthmovers and Sandcastles by Carrie (26)

Confidence and Cockiness : Well, hurray for you! You sure showed that new runner! A real runner wouldn’t think of needing assistance for anything less than a hundred miles! A fifty-mile race shouldn’t require more than a fanny pack and a visor! (posted Dec 7, 7:05pm)
