Thanks Holidailies! : Where I say my thank-yous, list some favorite blogs and include a gratuitous picture of Neil Gaiman. (posted Jan 6, 7:37pm)

Books, Travels and Sleep : Dan Harrington has some great poker tournament strategy books. After playing for so long, I find that I already know most of the basic concepts he talks about (and by “basic” I mean – seriously in-depth minutia of every aspect of poker play but essential minutia for any good player), but this particular book adds so much more information. Farewell Again : But I am very very very ready to go home. (posted Jan 4, 1:18am)

Good thing insomniacs don't get lonely. Too much. : The dark quiet hours of the night. The hazy wasteland of a bright morning. I see nighttime through the fractured lense of an ocassional insomniac. (posted Jan 2, 1:26am)

Friday Five: Beginning, End : One word for the New Year? EPIC. (posted Jan 1, 3:03pm)

Time Fillers : Best of Holidailies And somehow I feel that at the end of next year, people will look at me more approvingly if I say “I read 50 books this year” rather than if I say “I played Civilization on the Playstation 100 times this year.” (posted Dec 30, 6:43pm)

Save the Best for Last? Or First? : Or is there some law of diminishing returns on choosiness? Maybe there is a brief period of bliss where we have what we want, then we get a little older and realize we chose all the best goodies and are left with the buttercream with cherries and there’s nothing left to look forward to but yelling at your cat and ... End of the Year : I do this one at the end of the year. Pull up some warm spiced cider and maybe try it yourself. (posted Dec 27, 9:49pm)

Books, Part 2: The List : I don’t know what order I will read them – I suppose I will just pick up whatever book inspires me on any particular day. I may read 5 of them at once. I may read them one at a time. But the goal here is to FINISH them. (posted Dec 26, 1:36am)

It's the Little Things : Tomorrow there will be homemade apple pies and butter-soaked rolls. (posted Dec 25, 1:29am)

Friday Five - All I want for Christmas : I am very much hoping that the economy picks up in 2010, for myself and many other people I have spoken to this year. Spread the work to your elves, Santa. Take a load off and relax until next year! (posted Dec 24, 12:57am)

Tired Rambles : Let's be honest - this is another boring short entry because I've been away from my computer all day and I am exhausted. Not even a funny short entry. Have I mentioned I get grumpy when I don't feel well? (posted Dec 23, 2:13am)

The Underappreciation of Stoicism : How many people praise the stoics? How many check up on them on a regular basis? How many really appreciate their nature given the amount of energy we expend on the more dramatic people in our lives? (posted Dec 22, 1:35am)

Oh, hello there Mr. CHP Officer dude, Sir : Yes, on my oh-so-jolly adventure through the bleak haze, I saw today behind me – flashing blue and red lights amidst the grey. (posted Dec 21, 1:39am)

Pictures are my memory : Apologies to anyone and anything that had a significant role in my year but didn’t manage to get captured by my camera. I probably left you out. (posted Dec 20, 1:13am)

Picnic on the Rigi : My personal photo and story: Hiking on the Rigi in Switzerland, we stopped at a picnic spot. Indeed, the Gruebinen was well equipped. But not nearly as well equipped as our friends. They had packed in fresh bratwurst, bags of carrot slices and small tomatoes, a loaf of bread, seasonings, and beauty of all beauty! – raclette cheese!! (posted Dec 19, 2:02am)

Poker and Patience : So, instead of a thoughtful and insightful blog about the merits of patience in poker, you get a rant about my throat and my brilliant snap of patience in the final moment of a poker tournament. What can I say? I come from a long line of impatient people. (posted Dec 18, 2:29am)

Feel cynical, die earlier... : What?! The study states that women who harbor cynical hostility don't live longer!?! I'm doomed. (posted Dec 17, 12:11am)

Look young, live longer.... : New research shows that younger-looking people live longer. All I have to say is – if younger-looking people have longer telomeres, then I must have some of the longest telomeres in human history. (posted Dec 16, 1:58am)

Is your Joy Tinged with Jealousy? : Sure, I understand a bit of envy here and there. But it strikes me in particular when people are jealous of their own loved ones. I think it is such a tragedy that someone ends up spending more time feeling bad for his/herself than happy for someone else. (posted Dec 15, 1:51am)

Notes from a Tired Traveler : Speaking of that valuable real estate, standing there trying to hold my tiny sliver of space next to an airport luggage carousel hearkens me back to the great “general admission” concert days of old. Lady, I’ll inch closer to your face until *you* step away from *me* when I am standing here first. (posted Dec 14, 2:05am)

Leaving on a Jet Plane : I'm frantically trying to pack and clean before I travel again. In all honesty, this is a boring entry to fulfill my Holidailies goal. Have I mentioned I hate cleaning and packing? (posted Dec 13, 2:53am)

Friday Five - Frightful : Depending on your definition of "frightful", I might go for a walk outside. One person's frightful is another person's delight, I think. (posted Dec 12, 2:33am)

Books, Books, Books : I would like to read more books in 2010. I'm looking for suggestions for books and challenges. Any ideas? And hey - did everyone else already figure out it's almost 2010? (posted Dec 11, 2:18am)

Random Wednesday (is it Wednesday?) : Does it make you nervous when your webcam “winks” at you? I’m not sure why. My mouse and I are nowhere near the webcam shortcut. But there it goes. *blink* *blink* Are you recording me while I am not looking? What is going on???? (posted Dec 10, 1:18am)

Eddie Aikau: Wow! : I’ve been watching live coverage of the Quicksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau. The event has only been completed seven times. Most years, the waves are just not high enough. This year, the ocean was generous and today was an epic Eddie. (posted Dec 9, 1:00am)

Pearl Harbor Day : My sister and I visited Pearl Harbor a couple of years ago when she was here visiting. I thought I would be overcome with emotion when I got out to the USS Arizona memorial, thinking about my father and the people who died on December 7, 1941. But I felt more awe than sadness while gazing out at the water ... (posted Dec 8, 12:05am)

Holidailies : It's that time of year again...December...and oh! Holidailies. And once again I ask, who exactly is this Stone Girl anyway?? (posted Dec 7, 2:23am)
